Why I Support Savers

As the CEO and Co-Founder of SaveTogether, I hope SaveTogether can inspire us all to save and invest in our collective future.

I was inspired to support the concept of saving as a way to help defeat poverty while working as a Kiva Fellow in Ghana in the spring of 2008.  While interviewing clients of the Ghanaian microfinance institution, Sinapi Aba Trust, I was struck by the number of borrowers who kept talking to loan officers about their difficulty in finding safe places to store their money.

Simultaneously, across the Atlantic Ocean, the U.S. economy was on the brink of collapse due largely to an economy that had overindulged itself in borrowing at the expense of savings.  

When I returned to the U.S, I resolved to pair my professional skills as a technology executive (Accenture) and a lawyer (Cozen O'Connor) with my desire to re-introduce the world to the power of responsible savings and investing. 

SaveTogether was born out of this desire.  Since then, my belief in the power of savings has only grown.  As I read the stories of our savers, I realize that it is not just the responsible saving and investing that inspires me, but, more importantly, it is the new outlook on life that is created through the process.  An outlook that begins with a small deposit but grows into something so much more.
