About Theresa (How Savers Are Selected)

Six years ago, Theresa's life turned a corner when she gave birth to an autistic child.  Having a son diagnosed with autism has steered Theresa toward a career helping people who need extra special care.

After securing a job at Beth Israel Hospital (BIH) as unit coordinator, she quickly discovered that her true calling was to be a nurse. Theresa is currently enrolled in classes to secure her CNA (certified nurse's assistant) and after that she plans to become an RN (registered nurse), which she can work towards with confidence thanks to the help of the Dotwell/Midas matched savings program.

Raising a child with autism is a full-time job in itself, not to mention the 32-40 hours a weeks Theresa works at BIH, and she still struggles to make ends meet for her family.  Sometimes it seems overwhelming to both go to school and provide for her son financially and as a mother, but Theresa has a stern will. She is the type of person this community needs as a registered nurse at our local health centers.

I'm a big believer in the power of matched savings accounts to help transform lives. I've seen it happen many times during the last 10 years as I've spearheaded the launch and growth of matched savings opportunities in my community in western Massachusetts....

Ensuring low and middle income families have access to saving and other asset building opportunities is the most straightforward and cost-effective way to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty.
