About Elizabeth (How Savers Are Selected)

Elizabeth was born and raised in San Francisco's Crocker-Amazon district. Her parents, who spoke only Spanish and had an elementary education, knew the value of education; they worked hard to make sure that she had opportunities to succeed. But it wasn't until her son Lorenzo (Lolo) was born that Elizabeth realized how critical education is to ensuring a bright future for your family. When she found out that EARN would help her start saving for Lolo's college now, before he even learns to hold a pencil, she jumped at the chance. With her son in the picture, Elizabeth has made changes in her own life, too. She decided to break the succession of retail jobs that she had held since graduating and go back to school to become a certified medical assistant. “I want a career in something that will let me improve my skills and my financial position.” And she's thrilled to have a head start on Lorenzo's college fund. “He's already showing an interest in books”, she says. “I can see him becoming some kind of investigator or researcher. He's really curious! But whatever he decides to do, he'll have my full support."
